Why "Chef Stack"?

Every good cook is building a stack, whether they call it that or not.

  • Your recipe stack is the collection of dishes you come back to: family favorites, weeknight standbys, and that one recipe you saved three years ago and still haven't tried.
  • Your ingredient stack is what's in your pantry, fridge, and spice drawer right now, and figuring out what you can make with it.
  • Your skill stack is everything you know how to do, from dicing an onion to knowing by smell when the garlic is done, and everything you're still learning.
  • Your tech stack is the set of tools that makes the rest easier.

Chef Stack brings all four layers together in one place. We built it because cooking at home should feel less like juggling browser tabs and conversion charts, and more like having a knowledgeable friend in the kitchen.

What Chef Stack Does

Free Kitchen Calculators and Conversion Tools

Quick, accurate answers to the questions that come up mid-recipe. Our tools include an ingredient-specific cups-to-grams converter (because a cup of flour and a cup of sugar don't weigh the same), an air fryer conversion calculator for adapting oven recipes, and a growing library of measurement, substitution, and scaling tools. Every tool is free and works without signing up.

AI Sous Chef

Ask a question the way you'd ask a friend: "Can I swap buttermilk for regular milk?" "How do I keep chicken breast from drying out?" "What can I make with leftover rice and two eggs?" Our AI Sous Chef gives you practical, specific answers tailored to what you're actually cooking.

Recipe Import and Organization

Save recipes from your favorite cooking sites into one clean recipe box, without the life story above the ingredient list.

Grocery Lists

Turn the recipes you want to make into a shopping list you can check off at the store. Grocery lists are included with every free account.

Meal PlanningComing soon

Plan your week and make better use of the ingredients you already have. Meal planning is in development and will connect directly to your recipe box and grocery list.

What Makes Chef Stack Different

Free core tools, no account required

Every kitchen calculator and reference tool on Chef Stack is free and works without signing up. Many recipe-manager apps put basic features behind a sign-up or subscription; you shouldn't need one to find out how many grams are in a cup of butter.

Ingredient-specific conversions, not one generic ratio

Generic conversion charts treat every cup the same. Ours use per-ingredient weights drawn from established references like King Arthur Baking and USDA data: a cup of all-purpose flour is 120 grams, a cup of granulated sugar is 200 grams, and a cup of butter is 227 grams.

The answer first, not the life story

Ad-heavy recipe blogs often bury the ingredient list under long introductions and pop-ups. Chef Stack puts the answer at the top, and recipe import strips a saved recipe down to its ingredients and steps.

An AI assistant built only for cooking

General-purpose AI chatbots answer everything; the AI Sous Chef is focused on the kitchen. It lives next to your recipes, conversions, and grocery list, so you don't have to copy and paste between apps with flour on your hands.

Independent, and we read every message

Chef Stack is an independent company, not part of a large media network. We're a small team, and every piece of feedback lands with the people who build the product.

The Team Behind Chef Stack

Chef Stack is an independent company founded in 2025 by Brian Adair, a software engineer, home cook, and father of four young kids who loves experimenting in the kitchen, whether for a big backyard barbecue, an intimate dinner party, or just trying to find something the kids will happily eat. We're a small team, and we read every piece of feedback.

Our Goals

  • Make cooking help accessible to everyone. Our core tools are free and always will be.
  • Give accurate, practical answers. Kitchen measurements and food safety aren't places for guesswork. We build our tools on established culinary references and test them against real cooking.
  • Save you time. Fewer tabs, fewer ads between you and the answer, and less time spent searching for things you need right now, with flour on your hands.
  • Help you grow as a cook. Whether you're making your first pot of rice or perfecting your sourdough, we want every visit to leave you a little more confident in the kitchen.
